Personal-Art has been turning customers' photos into pop art since 2003. It started with portraits in the style of Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein and now offers dozens of looks, from photo collages and polygon portraits to stained glass, propaganda posters, street art and pencil-style sketches. The studio is run by Personal Art Pte. Ltd. in Singapore, but the UK site prices everything in pounds and advertises free delivery.

Each piece is made by a team of digital artists, not an automatic filter. You choose a style, say how many people, pets or objects you want in the picture, upload a photo of each and add any notes on colours or cropping. A proof arrives by email, usually within 48 hours, and you can ask for as many changes as you like before approving it. Then you choose canvas (on a 2cm or 4cm frame), a paper poster or a digital file. It suits anyone after a personal gift for a birthday, anniversary or Christmas, or a bold family portrait for their own wall.

What's worth a look

Here are six styles from the shop. Prices are the design price for one person, pet or object, before you add extra subjects or a print.

The Andy Warhol's Style Portrait – 4 Boxes is the classic: one face repeated in four bright colour blocks. The Lichtenstein range comes with a choice of comic-book backgrounds, such as Town by Night. For something bigger, the Photo Collage Portrait builds a portrait out of lots of your own photos. It is the priciest design here, but it makes a strong anniversary or milestone birthday present.

Print costs are added on top of the design price. A 30 x 30cm canvas, for example, adds £51.90 on the Warhol 4 Boxes page, and each extra person or pet adds £29.90. Canvas prints come in sizes from 15 x 15cm up to large panoramic formats, and you can also leave instructions on colours or cropping when you upload your photos.

Current offers

  • Free delivery: the homepage advertises free delivery on portraits and collages.
  • Unlimited changes: there is no limit on the number of proofs before you approve your design.
  • Gift certificates: a gift voucher lets the recipient choose their own style and photos.

How to save more

  • Every extra subject costs £29.90, so a design with one person, one couple shot or one pet keeps the price down.
  • If you have a good local printer, or need the artwork quickly, order just the digital file and have it printed yourself.
  • Read the cancellation policy before ordering: approved designs that have gone to print cannot be refunded, so check the proof carefully.
