Shadow rents you a full Windows PC that lives in a data centre and streams to whatever screen you have: a laptop, a Mac, a Chromebook, a phone, a TV or a VR headset. You install your own games from Steam, Epic or Battle.net, along with your mods and software, just as you would on a gaming PC at home. It suits people who want to play modern PC games without buying a powerful tower, Mac owners who want to run Windows-only games, and creatives who need GPU power for 3D, rendering or AI work now and then.

Every plan is billed monthly with no commitment, so you can try it for a month and cancel. You'll need a decent broadband connection, and Shadow has a requirements page to check before you sign up.

What's worth a look

Shadow has three families of plans (Lite, standard and Pro) with UK prices shown in pounds per month.

For most gamers, the choice is between Neo and Power. Neo, at £32.99 a month, is pitched at 1080p and 1440p gaming with RTX and DLSS, streaming up to 1440p+ with multi-screen and ultrawide support. Power, at £49.99 a month, adds up to 50% more GPU power and 28GB of RAM with 20GB of video memory, and streams up to 5K. Shadow's own benchmarks show Counter-Strike 2 at 1440p running at 140 fps on Neo and 165 fps on Power.

If you only play a few hours a day, the Lite plans cost less. Neo Lite is £25.99 a month and Power Lite £39.99, both with up to 120 hours of play a month and sessions of up to four hours. The standard plans allow 210 hours. Storage starts at 256GB on Lite and 512GB on Shadow PC, and can be expanded up to 5TB on every tier.

The Pro plans (Neo Pro, Power Pro and Expert Pro) add priority access, longer sessions, faster support and user management, and are aimed at 3D, CUDA and AI workflows.

Current offers

Shadow's Halloween offer of up to 15% off Shadow PC has now ended, and the offers page currently shows standard monthly prices with no discount. The no-commitment monthly billing means you can still try a plan for one month without signing up for longer.

How to save more

  • Start on Lite. If you game for an hour or two most evenings, 120 hours a month is plenty, and Neo Lite saves £7 a month over Neo. You can upgrade later.
  • Only pay for Power if you need it. Neo already handles 1440p in popular games. Power is worth it for demanding titles, high refresh rates or VR.
  • Pause between busy months. With no commitment, you can cancel during months you won't play and come back when a big release lands.
