Spreadshirt started in Leipzig in 2002 as a student start-up and has grown into one of the best-known print-on-demand names in Europe. Its UK site lets you put your own words, photos or logo on T-shirts, hoodies, jackets, caps, socks, bags, mugs and more, either printed or embroidered, and every item is made to order.

If you'd rather not design anything, the Shop section is a marketplace of ready-made designs from independent creators, alongside officially licensed ranges such as Peanuts and Harry Potter. It suits personalised Christmas presents, matching family jumpers, hen and stag do T-shirts, and small runs of clothing for clubs, teams and events. Businesses wanting branded workwear can use the separate Spreadshirt Pro service.

What's worth a look

Six ready-made designs from the Shop, all of which can also be ordered on other colours and products.

The oak leaf embroidered cap is a good example of the embroidery side of the site, on a soft, unstructured cotton cap with an adjustable buckle. For younger fans, the Back To Hogwarts kids' T-shirt is printed on 100% organic cotton.

To make something from scratch, start at Create Your Own, choose a product, then upload a picture or add text. The designer shows a preview before you order.

How to save more

• Combine orders for a team, a family or a party into one basket. It's the easiest way to reach both the six-item volume discount and the £80 free shipping threshold.
• Look for a promotion banner on product pages before you check out: when we visited, they were advertising 20% off everything with a code, so it's worth waiting for one on a bigger order.
• Leave plenty of time before Christmas. Everything is made to order, so production time comes on top of delivery, and express shipping costs more.
