Yakwax is a surf and skate shop on Portinfer Coast Road on Guernsey's west coast. It was founded in April 2002 by Rob, a local surfer, and the team is made up of surfers and skaters. The shop on the island opens Monday to Saturday, and the online store ships to the UK and worldwide. It suits anyone kitting out for cold-water surfing, building a skateboard or looking for streetwear from brands like Vans, Volcom, Brixton and Dakine.

The range is deep for a single shop. There are wetsuits for men, women, kids and toddlers in every thickness, along with boots, gloves and hoods. You'll also find new and second-hand surfboards, bodyboards and SUPs, Dryrobe changing robes and accessories, skate decks, trucks and complete boards, and snowboard outerwear.

Because the shop is in Guernsey, UK parcels go by Royal Mail. Standard delivery is untracked and averages about five working days, so pick 1st Class or the tracked express service if you need something by a set date. If you're on the island, you can order online and collect from the shop free of charge. Orders placed before 3pm are ready the same day. The team can be reached by phone, by email or through a Facebook Messenger chat.

For winter surfing, the Alder Mens Stealth 5/4/3mm Backzip Wetsuit is the cheaper option at £159.90. It has a 5mm body, 3mm arms, glued and blindstitched seams and knee pads. At the top end, the Xcel Mens 5/4mm Comp+ Chest Zip is £359.90. For skaters, the Birdhouse 8.0 Hawk Crest Stage 1 complete board costs £69.90 and comes ready to ride, with a 7-ply maple deck, 52mm wheels and ABEC 5 bearings.
