About D.T. Brown
D.T. Brown has been selling seeds since January 1908, when David Brown set up on his own. It began by supplying market gardeners in the north-west of England and later moved into mail-order vegetable seeds for home growers. Today it is part of Mr Fothergill's Seeds, with its customer services in Newmarket, Suffolk, and it still describes itself as a fruit and vegetable specialist with its own seed-testing laboratory.
The range covers vegetable and herb seeds, flower seeds and bulbs, young vegetable plants, seed potatoes, onions, shallots and garlic, soft fruit and fruit trees, plus tools and growing equipment. Orders follow the gardening calendar: in autumn it sends out bulbs, autumn-planting onions and garlic, wallflowers, brassica plants and bare-root fruit, while next spring's range can be pre-ordered. Live items show their latest despatch date on the product page, and the site has growing guides and advice.
D.T. Brown delivers to the UK mainland only, not to Northern Ireland or abroad. Postage is £2.95 on seed-only orders, £6.95 on orders of plants, bulbs, potatoes, onions or equipment, and £9.90 when an order mixes seeds with other items, because they ship from different places. Seeds usually arrive within 5 to 7 days. If seed fails to germinate it sends a replacement packet, and plants or sundries that arrive in poor condition are replaced or refunded if you tell it within 7 days.
