About Mailchimp
Mailchimp is an email and SMS marketing platform that began in 2001 as a side project of the Rocket Science Group, a web design agency founded by Ben Chestnut and Dan Kurzius. It has been part of Intuit since 2021. Businesses use it to build an audience, design and send campaigns, and set up automations such as welcome emails. It also offers AI tools, transactional email and more than 300 integrations.
The range of plans is wide. The Free plan costs £0 a month but is limited to 250 contacts, 500 sends a month (250 a day), one seat and one audience, with email support for the first 30 days only. Standard is listed at £15 a month before any discount, and Essentials and Premium sit above and below it. Larger lists and very high-volume senders need to talk to sales. A Pay As You Go option exists for people who send infrequently, and Premium adds expert onboarding.
It is software rather than a shop, so nothing is delivered. Prices on the pricing page appear in pounds. Plans are billed monthly or annually, and the Standard and Essentials plans have a 14-day free trial that needs valid payment details. Cancel during the trial and you are not charged. Payment is by major credit cards, PayPal, or direct debit in select countries. The pricing page gives no refund policy, so check before paying annually.
