Asda Travel Insurance is the holiday cover sold under the Asda Money banner. Asda doesn't insure you itself: policies are arranged through InsureandGo, administered by Insure & Go Insurance Services and underwritten by Zurich, with Zurich Assist on hand 24 hours a day if something goes wrong abroad. It's a sensible place to start if you're booking a family holiday, an older traveller who has struggled to find cover, or someone heading off several times a year.

Every policy comes in three levels. Value covers medical expenses up to £20 million, missing bags up to £1,000 and cancellation up to £1,000. Premium lifts those to £25 million, £1,300 and £2,000, and Superior gives unlimited medical cover, £2,000 for bags and £5,000 for cancellation. You then pick UK, European or worldwide cover, with or without the USA, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.

What's worth a look

If you travel more than once a year, the annual multi-trip policy covers as many trips as you like over 12 months, and Asda points out it can work out cheaper than buying single policies for two or more holidays. Families should look at the family cover, where up to three children go free per insured adult when you buy direct.

There's no upper age limit on any policy, and all pre-existing medical conditions are considered once you declare them in the online screening. For a ski trip, winter sports cover is an optional extra that adds protection for things like piste closure and lost ski equipment, and the cruise add-on covers missed port departures, cabin confinement and unused excursions.

Couples who live at the same address can share one policy, and on an annual couples policy both of you can travel separately. There's UK-only cover too, for cancellation, baggage and valuables on trips closer to home.
