Clove Recycling works the other way round from most shops on Voucher Magpie: it pays you. It's a phone buy-back service run by Hugh Symons Exchange Limited in Poole, Dorset, a business whose roots go back to 1971 and which also trades as Clove Technology, selling new and refurbished devices. You pick your model, storage, condition and network, get a quote, post the phone for free and get paid once it has been checked.

It suits anyone with an upgrade-drawer phone they'd rather turn into cash, including faulty ones, since there's a faulty grade for most models. It buys Apple, Samsung, Google, OnePlus, Oppo, Xiaomi, Sony, Huawei, Nothing and Fairphone handsets, and businesses, charities and schools can get a bulk quote with data-wiping certificates.

A few rules apply before you sell. You need to own the phone outright, with no finance or contract left on it, and it mustn't be reported lost, stolen or blacklisted, as Clove checks the IMEI. Any SIM or memory card you leave inside is destroyed rather than returned. If you're replacing the phone, its sister company Clove Technology sells new and refurbished devices.

The iPhone 17 Pro Max tops the list at up to £812, and the Galaxy S25 Ultra is quoted at up to £488. Older and mid-range phones are worth checking too: the Pixel 9a was up to £208 and the Galaxy S25 FE up to £261.

There are no codes here, as you're the one being paid, but the service has a few useful extras. Postage is free: print a returns label, or ask for a freepost bag, which it sends within 48 hours, and for high-value phones it can arrange a DPD collection. Quotes come with a 14-day price guarantee, and payment by bank transfer or PayPal is made the same day for phones received and checked before midday.

How to save more

• Get the phone ready before posting: sign out of iCloud, Google or Samsung accounts, remove PINs and SIM and memory cards, and factory reset it, or the offer can drop.
• Be honest about condition. The full quote is paid if the phone matches what you described, and it can offer less if it doesn't.
• For an expensive phone, ask for DPD collection, as the terms say the Royal Mail pack is uninsured.
