isubscribe has been selling magazine subscriptions online since 2000 and describes itself as the UK's original and largest subscription marketplace. It works directly with more than 800 publishers and box makers, so you can find big weeklies, niche hobby titles, children's comics and subscription boxes in one place, with delivery included in every price. In all there are more than 3,000 subscriptions to choose from, and isubscribe says the average saving on a magazine subscription is 35% against the shop price.

It's handy if you want to cut the cost of a magazine you already buy in the shops, and it's an easy fix for presents: a subscription keeps arriving long after the wrapping paper has gone, and you can send a free personalised e-card to announce it.

What's worth a look

Here are six subscriptions from isubscribe, with prices as shown on the site.

The trial offers are the eye-catchers. Good Housekeeping is five issues for £5 with a free Christmas bundle, then £37.50 every six months by Direct Debit, and The Spectator is 12 issues for £12 before moving to £49.99 a quarter. For children, The Phoenix weekly comic is six issues for £1, then £12.49 a month, while National Geographic Kids comes with a free Gross Fact Book.

If you'd rather pay once, titles such as Good Food are sold as a fixed 12-issue subscription by card or PayPal. Subscription boxes include the Cookie Crumbles Baking Club, a letterbox baking kit with a different mix each month.

Current offers

  • Join isubscribe Rewards and complete your profile for 250 points, worth £2.50 off your next order.
  • Good Housekeeping: 5 issues for £5 plus a free gift, then £37.50 every six months.
  • The Spectator: 12 issues for £12, then £49.99 every three months.
  • The Phoenix: 6 issues for £1, then £12.49 a month.
  • The free gifts page lists more titles that come with a bonus gift.

How to save more

  • Join Rewards before your first order. You earn 5 points per £1 after that, and the points never expire, though they can't be used on Direct Debit subscriptions.
  • With trial offers, check what the Direct Debit costs afterwards. Publishers set a 12-month minimum term on Direct Debit orders, so make sure you're happy to keep it.
  • Compare print with digital. Many titles also come as digital editions supplied through Zinio, which you can read in a browser or app, and these can be a cheaper way to try a magazine before committing to print.
  • Order gift subscriptions in good time. Monthly titles can take four to six weeks for the first issue, and free gifts arrive separately.
