Perfect Moment began in Chamonix in 1984, started by the extreme sports filmmaker and skier Thierry Donard. Since 2010 it has been run by Jane and Max Gottschalk, and it's now best known for skiwear that looks as much at home in the bar as on the piste: flared ski pants, cropped down jackets, bold intarsia knits and a lot of colour.

This is luxury kit, so it suits someone investing in a ski wardrobe that will last several seasons, or a special present for a keen skier. There are ranges for women, men and kids, covering jackets, pants, one-piece ski suits, knitwear and base layers. The UK site shows prices in pounds, with taxes and duties included, so there's nothing extra to pay when your order arrives from the brand's warehouse in the Netherlands.

What's worth a look

The High-Waist Aurora Flare Ski Pant is the brand's signature shape, with a denim-inspired flare, a thermal fleece lining and water-resistant fabric. If a full outfit is out of budget, the Chalet Base Layer Top is one of the more affordable ways in, made from a soft lyocell blend designed to sit under a jacket.

For the cold days, the Duvet Down Ski Jacket uses duck down insulation with a '70s-inspired tailored cut, and the High Shine Polar Flare Down Jacket, with its cropped, flared shape and 700-fill-power down, is the one most people recognise.
