Purplebricks: selling your home for a fixed fee from £999

Purplebricks is an online estate agent with local property experts around the UK. Instead of charging a percentage of your sale price, as many high street agents do, it charges a fixed fee to sell your home, and you can choose to pay nothing upfront. It also handles lettings for landlords and offers mortgage advice through Purplebricks Mortgages.

It suits sellers who are happy to manage their sale through an app and want to know the cost from the start. Its own example compares a £200,000 sale: £999 with Purplebricks against £3,120 for a high street agent charging 1.3%, a saving of £2,121. Purplebricks says it has saved sellers more than £600 million in fees.

You still get a local expert. A property expert values your home and knows your area, a sales consultant helps with viewings and offers, and a sales progressor works with solicitors, buyers and the chain once a sale is agreed.

What's worth a look

Here are six Purplebricks services, from selling and letting to valuations and mortgages.

The selling package includes professional photos and a floor plan, a property video tour, a 'For Sale' board, listings on Rightmove, Zoopla, OnTheMarket and Purplebricks, and viewings and offers handled around the clock through the app. You also get a dedicated sales progressor once you accept an offer. For homes worth up to £200,000 there are two ways to pay: £833 plus VAT before your sale starts, or £999 with nothing upfront, paid within 10 months. To pay later you have to use the allocated conveyancer. The fee is higher for homes worth more, and the page shows bands for £201k to £300k and over £300k.

Optional add-ons include assisted viewings for £499 and an EPC for £199. At the time of writing, the package page also lists Featured and Premium Rightmove listings as included.

Landlords can choose tenant find, let and rent collect, or fully managed. With all three, you pay nothing until a tenant moves in, unless you pick an add-on.

How to save more

• Pay now if you can. On the band up to £200,000, the pay-now fee is £833 plus VAT, and paying upfront means you don't have to use the allocated conveyancer.
• Skip add-ons you don't need. Assisted viewings cost £499. If you're happy to show buyers round yourself, that's money saved.
• Combine selling and your mortgage. If you're moving, check whether your package lets you have the mortgage advice fee waived.
