The Cocoon Collection is a group of six resorts in the Maldives and Zanzibar run by the Azzola family, who opened their first resort in Sri Lanka in 1980 and built up the Italian tour operator Azemar. Each resort has its own character, from a design-led island to an adults-only lodge, so the collection suits honeymooners, couples and families alike, as long as you're planning a long-haul beach holiday in the Indian Ocean.

The collection's site is a showcase for the six resorts rather than a shop. It doesn't show prices, and bookings go through its booking search or each resort's own site and reservations team, so you'll see rates and currency when you search dates.

What's worth a look

Here are the six resorts, three in each destination.

In the Maldives, Cocoon Maldives in Lhaviyani Atoll calls itself the first design hotel in the islands, with 60 overwater and 90 beach villas and suites, three restaurants and two bars, reached by a 30-minute seaplane flight from Malé. You & Me Maldives is adults-only, with a Premium All-Inclusive plan that lets you eat lunch and dinner at any of its à la carte restaurants except the H2O underwater restaurant.

Zanzibar is the place to look if you want something different. Bawe Island has just 70 villas, each with a private pool and butler service, on a 30-hectare island facing Stone Town, while The Island Pongwe is an adults-only lodge with a gourmet restaurant set in a garden by the sea.

How to save more

• Book early. The Cocoon Circle perks are tied to Early Bird rates, which suggests planning well ahead is how you get the best price here.
• Think about transfers when comparing resorts. Joy Island is 40 minutes from Malé by speedboat, while Cocoon Maldives and You & Me need a seaplane or a domestic flight and speedboat, which can add a lot to the cost.
• Look at what's included. You & Me's Premium All-Inclusive plan covers lunch and dinner across its restaurants, which can work out better value than paying for meals separately on a remote island.
