Blinds Direct Online sells made-to-measure blinds that are cut and built in its own factory in Nottinghamshire. The shop is run by BlindsCo Ltd, which is registered in Sheffield, and while the website is fairly new, the site says the people behind it have been making blinds for more than 30 years. It says its blinds have gone into over 500,000 homes.

You choose the style, enter your window measurements and see the exact price before checkout. The range covers aluminium Venetians, real wood Venetians, vertical blinds and replacement vertical slats, roller blinds in blackout and fire-retardant fabrics, Allusion blinds, perfect fit blinds that clip into the frame of uPVC windows and doors, cellular thermal blackout blinds and a Shutters Lite range that gives a shutter look within the frame. All of them are fitted with child safety devices.

It suits DIYers who are happy to measure and fit their own blinds, since there's no fitting service, and anyone kitting out a whole house who wants made-to-measure without paying for a home visit. The measuring and fitting guides walk you through recess and exact fits, and the phone team can help if you get stuck.

What's worth a look

One blind from each of the main styles. Prices depend on your measurements, so they aren't listed here.

For kitchens and bathrooms, the site points to aluminium Venetians and roller fabrics because they wipe clean. The Matte White Perfect Fit Venetian Blind sits inside the window frame, which the site says suits uPVC windows and French or patio doors. If you want warmth, the Bali Wooden Venetian has real wood slats and comes up to 2.4m wide.

Sizes are generous at both ends. The Bali blind runs from 290mm to 2400mm wide and from 150mm to 3000mm drop, and for recess blinds the factory takes 12mm off the width so the blind fits inside the opening. The product pages say all the blinds meet the European safety standard BS EN 13120.
