Chiva-Som: all-inclusive wellness retreats by the sea in Hua Hin, Thailand

Chiva-Som opened in 1995 when its founder, Boonchu Rojanastien, turned his private beachside property in Hua Hin, on Thailand's Gulf coast, into a wellness resort. Thirty years on, Chiva-Som Hua Hin is still the group's flagship, with 54 rooms and suites set in tropical gardens by the sea. The group also runs Zulal Wellness Resort in Qatar, which opened in 2022.

It suits people who want a holiday built around rest, exercise and spa treatments rather than sightseeing. You don't book a room on its own: every stay at Hua Hin is a retreat that includes three meals a day, a consultation on arrival, one treatment per night, group classes and use of the pools, saunas, steam rooms and gym. Rates are in Thai baht with 17.7% service charge and VAT on top, and stays are paid in full when you book.

What's worth a look

Here are six rooms, retreats and offers from the Chiva-Som site.

The Ocean Room is the entry point: 34m², with a terrace looking out over the gardens or pool and a separate dressing room. If you'd like more privacy, the Thai Pavilion rooms are 66m² and sit away from the main building in the gardens, with a screened terrace. Every room comes with pyjamas, a robe, a choice of pillows and a small daily laundry allowance.

First-time guests who aren't sure which programme to pick are steered towards A Taste of Chiva-Som, an introductory retreat for a short reset. There are 16 retreat themes in total, and the shorter Chiva-Som Essentials stay works from two nights if you'd rather not commit to a full programme.

Current offers

• Early Bird Offer: 20% off retreats booked at least 120 days ahead with a minimum three-night stay, or 15% off for bookings 90 to 119 days ahead with at least five nights. It runs for bookings until 30 September 2027, for stays until the end of 2027, and is non-refundable.
• Suite Privilege: free return airport transfers when you stay five nights or more in any suite until 31 December 2026.
• Chiva-Som Essentials: flexible stays from two nights, for stays until 31 December 2026.

How to save more

• Decide early. The biggest saving on the site comes from booking 120 days or more ahead, so a spring or summer trip is worth booking now.
• If you're staying in a suite for five nights or more, time it for Suite Privilege so the airport transfers are included rather than added on.
• Budget for the extras: the 17.7% service charge and VAT go on top of the baht rate, and there's a compulsory supplement for the New Year's Eve gala dinner.
