G-STAR, the brand many people still call G-Star RAW, has been making jeans in Amsterdam since 1989. It made its name with raw, untreated denim in the 1990s, and denim is still the heart of the range, alongside jackets, sweatshirts, knitwear, shoes and a kids' collection. The UK site prices everything in pounds, and the brand has had shops in UK cities including London, Cardiff and Edinburgh.

It suits anyone who wants a solid pair of jeans in a fit they can come back to year after year, and people who like workwear-style jackets and overshirts. Prices sit in the mid-to-upper range for denim, so it's worth knowing how to make the most of the offers and returns rules.

What's worth a look

Here are six pieces from the UK site, all at full price when we checked.

The 3301 Slim Jeans are the brand's long-running classic, and the women's 3301 Skinny Jeans use the same name with a mid waist. For something newer, the Dartt Zip Slim Jeans come from the Anatomic Denim collection, with a low waist and zip detail. If you're sorting out a winter layer, the Dakota denim jacket and the zip-up Track Jacket are both straight-up everyday pieces.

Fit is where G-STAR's jeans differ most, so it's worth using the jeans fit guide before you buy. Men's styles run from skinny and slim through straight and tapered to loose and bootcut. Women's fits include skinny, boyfriend, straight, loose and bootcut or flare. Raw and selvedge denim are sold in their own sections if you'd rather break in a stiff pair yourself.

How to save more

• Sign up to the newsletter before your first order. You'll get 15% off full-price items and free standard delivery.
• Keep at least one full-price item in your order if you think you might send things back. Returns within 30 days are free in that case, but orders made up only of discounted items have £7.95 taken off the refund.
• G-STAR doesn't price match, but if something you've bought is reduced within 30 days and still available in your size, you can return it and reorder at the lower price.
