Stewart Golf is a family-owned British company that has been designing and hand-building electric golf trolleys in Gloucestershire since its first remote-control model, the X1R, came out in 2003. Its trolleys are made for golfers who walk their rounds: some follow you hands-free down the fairway, others are steered with a handset, and all of them fold down small enough for the boot.

It suits regular walking golfers who want to stop pushing or pulling a trolley, players whose backs and knees would rather not, and anyone who has ever had to chase a push trolley down a slope. Prices are serious, so it's also worth knowing that Stewart Golf sells serviced refurbished trolleys, offers finance and lets you try a new trolley for 30 days.

What's worth a look

Three of the current trolleys, a refurbished option and two add-ons made to go with them.

The Q Follow is the flagship: it follows you as you walk, can be switched to remote control, and comes in a choice of colours and battery sizes. If you'd rather steer, the VERTX Remote has a handset with a 100m range and adjusts to the slope of the course, with a larger 307Wh battery available. Stewart Golf's own bags, such as the NERO 2 cart bag, have a keyed base that locks onto the Q Follow and VERTX.

Stewart Golf also looks after trolleys once you own them. It sells spare parts, from wheels and handsets to lithium batteries, along with winter wheels for soft ground, and runs servicing for trolleys, batteries and handsets. New trolleys bought direct come with a two-year warranty, which can be extended.

Current offers

• Approved Refurbished event: serviced and tested trolleys with savings of up to £699. The refurbished Q Follow starts at £1,225, against £1,799 for a new one, and refurbished trolleys come with a 12-month warranty.
• Free UK delivery on orders over £300. Below that, delivery costs £8.99 to £11.99.
• Finance on orders over £495 through V12 Retail Finance, including 0% plans. On Stewart Golf's own example, a £1,799 trolley over 12 months at 0% is £134.93 a month after a £179.90 deposit. Finance is subject to status.
• 30-day trial on new electric trolleys bought direct: if it isn't for you, Stewart Golf collects it at its cost and refunds you, less any repairs for damage beyond normal wear.

How to save more

• Compare new and refurbished before you buy. Refurbished stock changes, sells out and has a 14-day return window instead of the 30-day trial, but the savings are large.
• Bundle spares and accessories with your trolley so the order clears £300 for free delivery.
