The Address Connolly is a four-star hotel on Amiens Street in Dublin 1, right across the road from Connolly Station. Regulars may remember it as the North Star Hotel. The original Victorian building went up in the late nineteenth century to serve the new railway, and the McGettigan family, who bought it around 1970, still own and run it. It is now the flagship of The Address Collective, the family's group of hotels in Dublin, Cork, Sligo and Glasgow.

It suits anyone who wants to walk to the city centre, the IFSC, the 3Arena or the Convention Centre, and people arriving by train or coach: Connolly, the Luas and Busáras are all on the doorstep. There is no car park, so it is less handy if you plan to drive. Prices are in euros and you book on the hotel's own site.

What's worth a look

Here are three room types and three of the packages listed on the hotel's site.

Classic Rooms come as doubles, twins and triples, and Family Rooms have two double beds in 26 square metres. If you want more space, Club Rooms are on an executive floor reached by a private lift, with in-room smart controls and access to the rooftop Club Lounge. Club Suites add a separate living area in 42 square metres.

The packages are where the value is. Golden Escapes is a two-night midweek break (Sunday to Thursday) with breakfast, a two-course dinner in NORTH on one night, a cocktail each and a 2pm check-out, from €237 per person sharing. Going to a gig? The Concert & Cocktail package starts from €224 for two people and includes a cocktail before the show and breakfast the next morning. Concert tickets aren't included.

Gym use is free for all guests. The spa, with its hydrotherapy pool and sauna, costs €25 extra unless your package includes it, as the Wellness Package does.
