Thermana Laško: thermal spa breaks in Slovenia's Savinja valley

Thermana Laško is a thermal spa resort in the Savinja valley in eastern Slovenia. It has two four-star hotels a short walk apart: Hotel Thermana Park Laško, with its pools under an opening glass dome and a newly renovated sauna centre, and the older Hotel Zdravilišče Laško, where the resort's 170-year spa story began and which has been rebuilt to be fully accessible. It suits families looking for a pool-based autumn or winter break, couples after a quiet wellness weekend, and older travellers who like a slower pace.

The site has a full English version and an English booking engine, but prices are in euros and are mostly quoted per person per night with a two- or three-night minimum. Most packages include half board, unlimited use of the thermal pools at both hotels, the gym, a bathrobe, Wi-Fi and free parking.

What's worth a look

Here are six packages from the resort's current offers page, with the lowest "from" price shown today.

The everyday Thermana pampers you package is the simplest way in: from €94.40 per person per night at Thermana Park with no single-room supplement, or from €100.80 at Zdravilišče Laško. For something more special, the Romantic getaway for two adds a river-view room, sparkling wine, a romantic bath and dinner at the Pavus restaurant in Tabor Laško Castle.

Away from the water, the area is good for gentle walks along the Savinja river, a hike up nearby Hum hill, and day trips to Celje's old castle and town centre. Laško is also on the railway line, and the resort points out that its hotels are only a short walk from the station through the renovated spa park, which makes it easy to combine with a few nights in Ljubljana.
